Charles Atwater Obituary

Charles William Atwater, 71, Ottawa, KS, passed away October 8, 2015 at his residence in rural Ottawa. He was born February 23, 1944 in Holton, Kansas the son of Alan M. and Hulda (Zwonitzer) Atwater. He was 1962 graduate of Netawaka High School, Netawaka, Kansas. He attended Highland Junior College in Highland, Kansas before graduating from Kansas University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Chuck previously lived in Gardner, Kansas from 1994 to 2003 before moving to Ottawa, Kansas in July of 2003 where he has since resided. He was employed in the residential housing industry for many years, including being a professional realtor in Lawrence, Ks. and working as an inspector for the Housing Authority in Olathe, Ks. Chuck was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, Ottawa, where he was a church elder, member of the choir and active in his bible study class as well as an active participant in the Via de Cristo. He also was a member of the Hope House board in Ottawa and volunteered many hours there. From 1966 to 1972 he served his country as a member of the United States Army National Guard. Chuck was united in marriage to Mariann Price, they later divorced. On September 12, 1994, he was united in marriage to Teresa DeWolf at Gardner, Kansas, they also later divorced. Both Mariann Atwater and Teresa Atwater survive. He is also survived by his daughter Heather O'Neill and her husband, Brenden, along with their children, Nora, Andrew, Ellen and Lydia O'Neill, Houston, TX; stepson Patrick DeWolf and his children, Cullen, Camryn and Cayden DeWolf of Baldwin City; mother, Hulda (Zwonitzer) Atwater of Tulsa, OK; sister, Mary A. Reimer and her husband, Daryl, of Tulsa, OK; sister-in-law, Kaye Keltner of Bartlesville, OK; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Gorrell, Kristin Reich, Mark Reimer, Kimberly Robinson, Angie Kelly. He is preceded in death by his father, Alan M. Atwater and a brother, Alan M. Atwater Jr. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday October 14, 2015 at Faith Lutheran Church, Ottawa. The family will meet with friends from 9:30 a.m. at the church prior to the service on Wednesday. Interment will be at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Netawaka Cemetery, Netawaka, Kansas.
