Dick Tice, age 84 of Ottawa, KS passed away Friday June 17, 2016 at Life Care Center, Osawatomie, KS. Dick was born in Moran, KS on January 14, 1932 the son of Roscoe David Tice and Lilly (Shelton) Tice. He grew up in Moran and was a graduate of Moran High School with the class of 1949. From 1952 to 1954 Dick served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, attaining the ranked of Corporal. While in the military he received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Army Occupation Medal (Germany). Dick was most known throughout the area as a car salesman. A profession he began in 1965 and retired from in 2010. He began working in Iola later working in Osawatomie and eventually moving to Ottawa in 1973 and working at Ottawa Ford and Creason-Tawney car dealerships. He also worked at a dealership in Lawrence for a short time. Dick was a member of the North Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 5901, and the American Legion Warren Black Post 60 all of Ottawa. During his retirement he loved gardening and working on his Ford mustangs. Keeping his yard in pristine order was a daily task he kept high on his list of things to do. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family, he loved for them to visit and catch up. Dick was a well-known jokester and always loved a good laugh. In 1967 Dick was united in marriage to Mary Haag at Iola, Kansas. They shared over 49 years of loving marriage. He is survived by his wife, Mary Tice, Ottawa; two children, Dave French of Osawatomie, Steve French of Iola; two stepchildren, Clayton Haag II of Ottawa, Mike Haag of Rantoul; fifteen grandchildren, Aron, Abby, Andy, Annie, Donny, Sara, Ronald, Justin, Jennifer, Clayton, Jillian, Ashley, Scott, Jerod, Jonah; and many great grandchildren. Dick is preceded in death by his parents; two children, Janice Smutz, Richard Matthew French; and a step-child, Sherry Lee Haag. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home.
