Dolores South Obituary

Dolores Aileen (Queen) South passed away Saturday, August 1, 2015. She was born in Redfield, Kansas on April 29, 1927 and grew up in Uniontown, Kansas. The daughter of Lester "Slim" Queen and Georgia Gibbs, she helped her parents keep Bourbon County in eggs and chickens, learning the value of hard work from a very early age. She passed this and many other wonderful values down to her children. Dolores met James Cunningham South when he was training to be a Navy pilot in Coffeeville. Her oldest friend said she knew immediately that he was the one for her. Dolores married James C South in January 1946. They lived in Virginia, South Carolina and finally moved to Ottawa, Kansas in 1960, where they put down deep roots. Dolores loved socializing, playing golf, and being creative. She also loved watching the Royals, travelling, playing cards and even taught her great-grandchildren how to use poker chips. She was a great cook and an even better friend. She was happiest spending time with friends and family, telling stories and talking about what was going on. Dolores is survived by a daughter, a son, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Barton South; and the love of her life, "Zig." The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, 325 S. Hickory, Ottawa, KS 66067. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, KS. Condolences may be sent to the family through www.lamb-roberts.com.
