Dorothy Wellington Obituary

DOROTHY ANNE "DOTTIE" WELLINGTON, 91 of Ottawa, KS passed away peacefully Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Olathe Hospice House in Olathe, KS. She was born May 4, 1924 in Kansas City, Missouri the daughter of Lancie L. and Julia (Rouggly) Watts. She grew up in Kansas City and attended Hale H. Cook Elementary and Southwest High Schools. She graduated from Randolph-Macon Woman's College. On September 14, 1946 she was united in marriage to Robert B. Wellington at the Country Club Christian Church in Kansas City, Missouri. They shared more than fifty-four years of marriage before the death of her husband on December 19, 2000. Dottie was a homemaker and author of the syndicated "Let's Cook" cooking column that appeared in the Ottawa Herald and other newspapers for many years, as well as two "Let's Cook" cookbooks. She taught cooking classes, was a frequent volunteer in her community and welcomed international exchange students to her home. She enjoyed genealogy research and creating photo slideshows of her family. She loved keeping in touch with a wide circle of family members and friends. She and Bob were devoted members of the Grace Episcopal Church in Ottawa, where she baked the altar bread for many years. She is survived by four sons, Thomas L. Wellington and his wife Beverly of Ottawa, KS; J. Patrick Wellington of British Columbia, Canada; David R. Wellington and his wife Kristy of Edmond, OK and James P. Wellington and his wife Julia of Wellington, KS; ten grandchildren, James R., Sarah Michelle, Virginia, Elizabeth, Victoria, Alexandra, Richard, Mitchell, Jennifer and Nicholas Wellington; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, and by her brother Bob Watts and sister Francie Sigman. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Grace Episcopal Church, 315 W. 5th Street, Ottawa, KS 66067.
