Jackie E. Welborn

Jackie E. Welborn, 80 of Ottawa, KS passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook, KS. He was born December 19, 1936 in Garnett, KS the son of Thomas and Sylvia (Mumma) Welborn. He attended school in Ottawa, graduating from Ottawa High School, Class of 1955. He attended technical school to become a journeyman electrician in Topeka, KS. He was united in marriage to Bonita L. Mages on June 9, 1956 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church at Homewood, KS. They shared over sixty years of marriage. Jack served our country as a Sergeant in the Kansas Army National Guard. He was a lifelong Electrician for IBEW #226 Topeka, KS. Jack was a member of Aerie 2700 Eagles in Ottawa, KS; IBEW Local Union #226 Topeka, KS and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed spending time with family, working on and showing Street Rods and woodworking. Mr. Welborn was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Sylvia Welborn, and a sister, Diana Kirkland. He is survived by his wife, Bonita; daughter, Cathy Sweetman and her husband Bob of Emporia, KS; two grandchildren, Bryan Sweetman of Overbrook, KS and Jennifer LeClair and her husband Corey of Tecumseh, KS; and three great-grandchildren, Sienna, Sydny and Vida. To celebrate Jack's life, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 426 S. Cedar, Ottawa, KS 66067. Interment with military honors will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Ottawa, KS. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. followed by a visitation from 7 to 8 p.m., Monday, February, 20, 2017 at the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, 325 S. Hickory, Ottawa, KS 66067.
