Loren Wayne Gilmore, Sr., 74, Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at the Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas. He was born November 24, 1940 in Ottawa, Kansas. His parents were Lawrence Barnhart and Maxine (Marcham) Barnhart Gilmore. He grew up and attended schools in Ottawa and earned a High School Diploma while in the military. He later earned a Business degree from Neosho County Community College. He was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Wilson on April 2, 1960 in Ottawa, Kansas. They shared fifty-five years of marriage. Loren served our country in the United States Army for twenty years. He was an Engineer Missile Equipment Specialist, earning the rank of Sargent First Class. He retired in 1976. He later worked for the United States Postal Service. He was a Rural Carrier and later worked in Topeka Maintenance Shop and retired in 1993. He then owned and operated the Gilmore Typewriter Repair Shop here in Ottawa for five years. Loren enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing the Lotto watching his favorite game shows and swimming. Mr. Gilmore was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Stanley Gilmore; and a sister, Jane Parks. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of the home; two sons, Loren and Ruth Gilmore Jr. and Larry and Teresa Gilmore all of Ottawa, KS; a daughter, Lorna Gilmore of Ottawa, KS; a brother, Benny Gilmore of Kansas City, KS; two sisters, Barbara Marcus and Becky Lepley both of Ottawa, KS; 8 grandchildren, Taylor and Josh Spooner, Jason and Candi Dials, Missy Lanam, Debbie Schulz, Amber Husted and Melissa Eastwood; and twenty-five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, 325 S. Hickory, Ottawa, KS 66067. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, KS. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to The Veterans Hospital in Topeka, Kansas c/o Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home.
