Martha Ann Hickerson

Martha Ann (Disque) Hickerson, 71, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away July 2, 2015 in Baldwin City, KS surrounded by family and loved ones. Martha was born in Ottawa, KS on April 20, 1944, the daughter of Fred Disque and Edith (Tipton) Disque. Martha worked for C.O.F. as a caregiver for the developmentally handicapped, having retired in 2009. Martha was united in marriage to Stephen Hickerson, Sr. on May 3, 1974. They were later divorced. They remained close friends after their divorce and he was always the love of her life. Martha enjoyed many hobbies from crossword puzzles to collecting Barbies. She was a funny person who loved to make people laugh even if she had to be inappropriate. She loved being outside whether it was camping and fishing, pulling weeds to care for her plants and yard, or driving around in her favorite car a Trans Am. Martha loved her cats, Cotton, Boo Boo, Angel, Precious, and Charlie. She even treated all animals and wildlife as if they were her pets. Martha was preceded in death by her parents. Martha is survived by two sons, David Ware, Ottawa, and Stephen Hickerson and fiance, Ashli Higbie, Baldwin City; a daughter, Dawna Stewart, Baldwin City; nine grandchildren, Tyler Ware, Ottawa, Kindal Ware, Dacota Dunlap, and Dillon Ware, all of Lawrence, KS, Ryan Ware, Wellsville, KS, Duke Stewart, Hunter Hickerson, Reagan Muncy, and Dakota Helm, all of Baldwin City; two great-grandchildren, Lyndsay Ware and Paighten Dunlap; her companion, Stephen Hickerson, Sr., Garnett, KS; and a brother, Joel Disque, California. The family will meet with friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday July 8, 2015 at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Chapel, Ottawa, KS. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday July 9, 2015 at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, KS.
