Martha J. Winegar

Graveside services for Martha Jane Winegar, 90, of Lawrence, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Goodrich Cemetery, Goodrich. Mrs. Winegar died on March 23, 2018 at Ottawa Retirement Village, Ottawa, KS. She was born July 6, 1927 in Liberty Township, Linn Co. Kansas, the daughter of Samuel and Jane (Plummer) Rookstool. During high school she was active in the war effort by spending her summer working for Boeing in Wichita doing airplane wing assembly. She graduated from Parker High School in 1946. She attended business school in Kansas City, and began working for Central Surety as a surety bond clerk. She married William Warner Winegar on November 23, 1949 in Kansas City, MO. They moved to Lawrence in 1952 and owned and operated Downtown TV for 37 years. He preceded her in death in 1991. She enjoyed travel and took several bus tours after her retirement. She was a Jayhawk fan and enjoyed watching KU basketball. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence, KS and the Eagles Auxiliary 309. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Thomas, Frank, and Edward, and two sisters, Viola and Elsie. Survivors include her son, William Winegar, Baldwin City, KS; her daughter, Marilynn O'Bryon, Lawrence, KS; two grandsons, William Winegar, Parker, KS and Zach Winegar, Metairie, Louisiana; one granddaughter, Lindsay (O'Bryon) Linker, Weatherford, Texas; three great grandchildren, Colby and Graden, Weatherford, TX and Addison, Parker, KS; her twin sister, Maxine Bearly, Ottawa, KS; and many nieces and nephews. The family will greet friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, 325 S. Hickory St., Ottawa, KS.
