Richard N. Strimple, age 91, of Ottawa, KS, passed away June 11, 2014, at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, KS. Richard was born May 7, 1923, in Altoona, KS, the son of Bert and Blanch (Cambell) Strimple. Richard graduated from Field Kinley High School in 1941 in Coffeyville, KS. He worked for Junge Baking Co. in Coffeyville, retiring after 37 years. Richard also served as lay minister for several Methodist Churches in the area for 5 years. He moved to Ottawa in 1987 and worked in maintenance and as a custodian for 23 years at First United Methodist Church. Richard was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ottawa. Richard was an accomplished whistler and performed for various churches and nursing homes in the area for many years. Richard was united in marriage with Helen Louise Wilkerson in Coffeyville, KS in 1942. They shared 62 years. Louise preceded Richard in death in 2004. Richard was also preceded in death by his parents and a son, Richard E. Strimple. Richard is survived by a daughter, Christine (Strimple) Johnson and husband, Richard D., of Ottawa; six grandchildren, Scarlet Nilges, Brenda Bettge, Susan Schmutz, Sharon Strimple, Angela Carter, Bobby Gragg; eight great-grandchildren, Garett and Greg Nilges, Debbie Fagan, Kylee Fielder, Brandon and Ralie Bettge, Hunter and Amanda Schmutz; and fourteen great-great-grandchildren. The family welcomes friends for a visitation service on Monday June 16, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa, KS. The funeral service will be Tuesday June 17, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Ottawa, KS. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, KS.
