Ronald Steven (Steve) Venable, age 54, of Olathe, Kansas, died Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas. He was born in Garden City, Kansas, July 31, 1958, the son of Merle and Janet Venable. Steve attended Jane Brooks School (for the Deaf) in Chickasha, Ok, Kansas School for the Deaf in Olathe, and graduated from Baldwin High School in Baldwin City with the class of 1977. He was an outstanding noseguard on his father's 1975 and 1976 football teams, and was regional champion in wrestling in 1975. He attended Johnson County Community College, but later graduated from Texas State Technical Institute in Waco, Texas in 1981 with a degree in Machine Technology. Steve worked various jobs including for Holiday Inn and King Radio before he went to Texas and began working at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas as an Air Mechanic. He had been a member of the Olathe Deaf Club. Steve is survived and will be deeply missed by his parents; two brothers, Shane Venable of Baldwin City, Scott Venable and his wife, Jill, of Baldwin City; sister Susan Venable and her significant other, Mato Veber, of Chicago, Illinois; nephews, Cory and Max Venable; nieces, Carissa Gripka and her husband, Mike, of Overland Park, Meghan Venable and Jade Venable; and a great niece, Ava Kay Gripka; two aunts, Jalayn Helm of Ovilla, Texas, Joyce Anderson of Hooker, Oklahoma; and many cousins. A friend of the family and especially kind to Steve, David Routh, should be mentioned as a survivor for his unconditional friendship and care giving. He is preceded in death by both his maternal and paternal grandparents; two paternal aunts, Robbie Venable and Coetta Mae Turner; and a cousin Kevin Hatcher this past April. Memorial funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at First United Methodist Church, Baldwin City, Kansas. The family will meet with friends at Lamb-Robert Funeral Home, Baldwin City from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, October 3, 2011.
