Rose Seele Obituary

Rose Mary Seele, 94, passed away February 13, 2018 at Baldwin Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was born February 4, 1924 to Stephan P. Gorney and Isabelle C. (Spring) Gorney in Spalding, Nebraska. Rose grew up in Nebraska and, at the age of 11 years old, the family moved to Missouri. She graduated from Lebanon, MO High School with the class of 1943. Rose was dutifully employed during her life. She worked for N.Y. Life Insurance Company, North American Aviation, Chrysler Corporation Parts Department, Farm Bureau Services and in the food service departments of The University of Kansas and U.S.D. 450 - Lawrence School District. She was also a loving and devoted homemaker for her ever-expanding family. Rose was a member of Worden United Methodist Church, where she was active in United Methodist Women. Rose enjoyed many hobbies: latch and hook rugs, visiting family and neighbors, completing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, bowling, walking and singing in choirs. She particularly loved to bake, especially breads, with strawberry bread being everyone's favorite. She had a love of reading, which she credited to keeping her mind sharp, and music, for which she had an extensive and eclectic album collection, from Engelbert Humperdinck to Elvis. Harold and Rose went dancing every weekend. She enjoyed the farm life and watching the calves romp and play. But, most of all, Rose was a very loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. The "little" ones always lit up her day when they visited. Rose was united in marriage to Gordon Wasson in 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri. They would later divorce. In her golden years, Rose was united in marriage to Harold C. Seele on February 4, 1989 at St. John's Church of Christ. They shared over 17 years of marriage until Harold's passing on October 12, 2006. Rose was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, John Wasson; two brothers, Joseph and John Gorney, two sisters, Frances Eberth and Catherine Minkler; and her first husband, Gordon Wasson. Rose is survived by three sons, David (Michelle) Wasson, De Soto, KS, Danny (Anne) Seele, Burlingame, KS, and Jerry (Janet) Seele, Baldwin City, KS; seven grandchildren, Angela (Jake) Howard, Julie (John) Teichmann, Justin Seele, Kristin (Nick) Amburgey, Jerod Seele, Kathryn (Jeremy) Friedl, Tressa Wasson; seven great grandchildren, Addison Howard, Jonathan Teichmann, Sydney Teichmann, Cassandra Teichmann, Harper Seele, Nicholas Seele, and Thoren Amburgey; and a brother, Ralph Gorney, Bothell, Washington. Visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the Worden United Methodist Church, Worden, KS. A funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm, with burial to follow at St. John's Cemetery, Worden, KS.
