Violet V. Wadkins

Violet V. Wadkins, 93 of Ottawa, Kansas passed away July 21, 2016 at Ottawa Retirement Village. She was born June 24, 1923 at her parents' home in the Greenwood Township in rural Franklin County, KS, the daughter of Henry George Wadkins and Ora Ellen (Mace) Wadkins. She grew up in the Quenemo area and graduated from 8th grade at No. 9 Rural School east of Quenemo. She later earned her G.E.D. and then graduated from Stormont-Vail Nursing School. In 1947 she moved with her sister, Lilly, to Topeka, living there until 2009 when she moved to Ottawa. Violet worked as a Nurse's Aide and eventually as a private duty nurse from 1951 until her retirement in 1984. During that 33 year period Violet and her sister Lilly worked together rotating day and night shifts for patients they served. Violet was a very humorous person, she loved a great joke and told jokes with ease. She was very civic minded always looking out for her fellow community member and volunteering her time. She loved to eat out with family during the various visits they had. Violet is survived by a niece, Sue Snodgrass, Williamsburg, KS and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Russell Wadkins, Pansy Snodgrass, and Lilly Wadkins. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, KS. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa.
