Wilma Springer

Wilma Irene Springer, 94, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away on May 8, 2016. She was born December 15, 1921 in rural Ottawa, KS, the daughter of G.B. Nelson and Dorothy Augusta (Pohl) Nelson. Wilma graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1939. She completed her R.N. certification from Newmans in Emporia, KS. She worked at Grant Hospital in Chicago, IL as well as Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, KS. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Ottawa. She volunteered for Awanas, had been a Sunday school teacher, and a member of Jolly Sixties. She was a wonderful cook, who was very hospitable and loved having company. On August 7, 1948 Wilma was united in marriage to Melvin D. Springer in Onaga, Kansas. Wilma and Melvin shared fifty-nine years of loving marriage together. Melvin preceded her in death on January 25, 2008. Wilma is also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Maxine Stephens, Dorothy Ann Nelson; and a brother, Ted Nelson. Surviving family includes a daughter Beth Nelson and husband, Lloyd, of Ottawa; grandchildren, Megan Rodina and her husband, Nick of Peoria, AZ., Aaron Nelson and his wife, Pamela, of Ottawa, Katie Barrow and her husband, Troy of Holton, KS., Hannah Wooten and her husband, Erick, of Ottawa; six great grandchildren, Emma Rodina, Aidan Rodina, Ryan Barrow, Breann Barrow, Austin Wooten, Brent Wooten; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services will be 10:00a.m., Friday May 13, 2016 at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. The family will greet friends on Thursday May 12, 2016 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Chapel, Ottawa, KS.
