Lewis Leonard Warner Miles, 93, of Burlingame, KS died Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Midland Care House in Topeka, Kansas.
He was born May 13, 1930 in Burlingame, KS, the son of Leonard Alvin and Annie Viola (Warner) Miles in the house where he lived most of his life. He graduated in 1948 from Burlingame High School.
On May 20, 1951, Lewis was united in marriage to Laura Louise Kimball at the Federated Church of Burlingame in Burlingame, Kansas. They enjoyed 67 years of loving marriage until her passing in 2018.
Lewis was a third generation, life-long farmer and stockman, stewarding God’s creatures and land on the family farm near 110 Mile Creek, in Osage County. He also served his country in the United States Army from 1952 until 1954 in Germany during the Korean War as part of the 1st Combat Engineering Company and earned the rank of Corporal. His name is on the veteran’s memorial in Osage City.
Lewis was a member of Farm Bureau, served a leadership role on the Osage County Farm Bureau Board for 26 years and was awarded both the Century Farm and the Bankers Soil Conservation designations. He was also a board member of the Burlingame Co-op and the Pauline Co-op, the Osage County Extension Board, and served on the Farmers Home Administration Board. Additionally, he was a volunteer for the Burlingame Dragoon Township Fire Department. He was a very talented woodworker and served as a 4-H project leader for numerous projects. Lewis was a founding and long time member of the Burlingame Saddle Club. Together with his wife, Louise, they were honored as the Grand Marshalls of the Burlingame Christmas Parade in 2009. He was a member of the Federated Church of Burlingame, serving 39 years as a board member, over 30 years as a Sunday school teacher and was a founding member of the Crusaders Sunday School Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Viola Miles; his wife, Laura Louise Miles; brother, Roland A. Miles; brother-in-law, Richard Kimball; son, Jerry Lauren Miles; and grandson, Rocky Scott Miles.
He is survived by James Miles (Pam) Windsor, CO; Steven Miles (Crystal) Lawrence, KS; Kenny Miles (Sharon) Burlingame, KS; Virgil Miles (Christianne) Tonganoxie, KS; and Jeanette Stinebaugh (Andy), Quenemo, KS; 10 grandchildren: Luke Miles, Bethany Lee, Jason Miles, Ben Miles, Carolyn Lowry, Jessica Miles, Tyler Miles, Tayler Kennedy, Laura Smith, and Amanda Brown; and 19 great-grandchildren: Samantha, Evan, Liam, Clara, Mariana, Oliver, Brixton, Trent, Shayne, Katie, Karley, Clayton, Kimber, Kimball, Burke, Jack, Herrick, Asher, and Clay.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at the Federated Church of Burlingame, 322 S. Topeka Avenue, Burlingame, KS. To celebrate Lewis’s life, a visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2024 at Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, 503 S Topeka Ave, Burlingame, KS 66413.
