Alice J. Cavender

Alice Josephine Cavender, age 71, of Baldwin City, Kansas passed away December 29, 2018 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence, KS. She was born February 2, 1947 in Hominy, Oklahoma, the daughter of Floyd Key and Letha (Morrow) Key. Alice grew up in Hominy, OK and graduated from Hominy High School. On January 10, 1968, Alice was united in marriage to James W. Cavender in Caney, KS. They shared over thirty-four years of loving marriage until his death on November 12, 2002. Alice and James moved from Caney, KS to Baldwin City, KS in 1968. She worked as a CNA/CMA/PT for Meadowbrook Rehabilitation and Orchard Lane Nursing Home for over twenty-five years. She also worked as a cashier at Walmart in Lawrence, KS for over 10 years, retiring in 1998. She was a member of New Life Assembly of God Church, Baldwin City, KS. Alice's grandchildren were #1 on her list. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing, and crocheting. And, she always took the time to read her Bible. Alice is survived by two daughters, Becky Fender and husband, Todd, Baldwin City, and Nina Somers and husband, Don, Haysville, KS; a son, David Cavender and wife, Carrie, Baldwin City; twelve grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Letha, and her husband, James. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 4, 2019, at New Life Assembly of God Church, 118 5th Street, Baldwin City, KS. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin City, KS. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, 712 9th Street, Baldwin City, KS.
