Devena Belle Mohler, age 87 of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away November 7, 2018, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Overland Park, KS. Devena was born June 13, 1931 to Jesse Wray and Delta (Davidson) Wray of Michigan Valley, KS. She attended a rural schoolhouse in the Centropolis area as a child. In 1948 she moved with her family to rural Ottawa, she met and married Paul W. Mohler, March 11, 1951 and enjoyed sixty-seven years of life together. To this union four children were born; Joyce Irene, James Wesley, Marilyn Louise, and Mark Leslie. In the year of 1957 a stanza of the hymn "Rock of Ages" became real to Devena. Could my tears forever flow, Could my zeal no langour know, These for sin could not atone; Thou must save and thou alone. Nothing in my hand I bring, Simply to Thy cross I cling; Realizing the truth of this Devena made Christ her Savior. She served the Lord as a pastor's wife in the four churches where Paul served as pastor for thirty-three and a half years and five years preparing and going to Papua New Guinea as missionaries. In these ministries she made herself a servant to all and was dearly loved. Devena was a faithful wife, a wonderful mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Paul Mohler; three children, Joyce (Mohler) Crotts and her husband, Richard, James Mohler and his wife, Vicki, Marilyn (Mohler) Reeves; eighteen grandchildren; forty-five great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. . She is preceded in death by her parents, a son, Mark Mohler, and two brothers, Wilbur and Delmar Wray. Family will greet friends on Friday, November 9, 2018 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa, KS. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Shawnee Mission Baptist Temple, 21533 Midland Drive, Shawnee, KS. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Centropolis, KS. Family will also greet friends for a viewing prior to the service from Noon to the service hour on Saturday at the church.
