Dorothy Roehl Obituary

Dorothy M. Roehl, 96, of Ottawa, KS passed away Friday, March 15, 2019, at Rock Creek of Ottawa. She was born June 16, 1922 in Ottawa, KS, the daughter of Ralph Sutherland and Vivian (Hobbs) Sutherland Dale. Dorothy was a lifelong Ottawa resident graduating from Ottawa High School with the class of 1940. Following high school Dorothy attended and graduated from Lawrence Business College. Early in her life, Dorothy worked at Woolworth's in Ottawa eventually becoming the bookkeeper there. For twenty years she was the Bookstore Manager and Union Director at Ottawa University, retiring in 1987. She also worked at Litwin's Clothing part-time. Dorothy was a member of The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, Trinity United Methodist Church of Ottawa, United Methodist Women as well as a former 4-H leader and a former PTA President at Lincoln Elementary. She also volunteered for many years at Meals on Wheels and was a twenty year volunteer for the Ransom Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. On November 29, 1942 Dorothy was united in marriage to Charley W. Roehl in Girard KS. They were lovingly married for sixty-four years until the passing of Charley November 30, 2006. In recent years Dorothy was known to stay inside and enjoy her old western movies. When she was younger she helped out on the farm, anything from gardening to cutting wood, she was eager to tackle any task set out for her. She was involved in many committees, and she loved to sew and crochet. The family enjoyed many vacations together. She knew everybody and was always excited to catch up with her many friends. She was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother who was always there to help. Dorothy is survived by three children, Eldon Roehl and wife, Lisa, Houston, TX, Keith Roehl and wife, D'Ann, Ottawa, KS, Janice Yost and companion, Jim Gardner, Ottawa, KS; seven grandchildren, Josh Roehl, Wayne Paul and wife, Casey, Nancy Paul, Karen Paul and companion, Ron Hiles, Genevieve Roehl, Sophia Roehl, Kaylan Bellinger and husband Zac; eight great grandchildren with another due soon; nine great-great grandchildren; and one great-great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father Bill Dale; her husband, Charley and a great-great granddaughter, Robbin Baska. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Family will meet with friends from 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m., Friday March 22, 2019 at the funeral home.
