Georgiana Monninger Obituary

Georgiana Coleen Monninger, 95, formerly of Baldwin City, KS, passed away Monday, March 27, 2017 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, KS. She was born May 26, 1921 in Erie, KS, the daughter of Everett L. Strange and Gertrude (Bell) Strange.  Georgiana attended schools in Shaw, Kansas and Chanute, Kansas, graduating from Chanute High School.  She continued her education at Pittsburg State University and received her teaching certificate. Georgiana was united in marriage to Thomas L. Monninger on August 18, 1942 in Shaw, KS. They shared over 46 years of loving marriage. He preceded her in death. Georgiana worked at various elementary schools, including Elsmore ,Towanda, Moline, and Eureka, KS, teaching in the regular classroom, and always including music and music programs. She retired from teaching in 1965. Georgiana and Tom moved to the Baldwin City area in 1972. Later, she became a realtor and worked for Nutt Real Estate in Baldwin. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, of which she served in United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Kansas State Chapter of P.E.O., Reading Club, and a variety of other clubs and organizations that she loved. She enjoyed volunteering at the Baldwin City Library and worked many luncheons and dinners at the United Methodist Church, including during The Maple Leaf Festival. She was very creative, painting and drawing, and being a part of the Gingerbread group that created special pieces for the Christmas festival in Lawrence. Sewing was always a part of her life, and she shared this love with her children, grandchildren, and the Douglas County 4-H sewing projects and reviews. Georgiana is survived by a son, Tom Monninger and wife, Sally, Lawrence, KS, and a daughter, Michelle Jennings and husband, Tom, Lawrence. She enjoyed six grandchildren, Bryan S. Monninger and wife, Joan, St. Louis, Missouri; Michael L. Monninger, Tampa, Florida; Heather K. Hinshaw, Overland Park, KS; Rebecca L. Meyers and husband, Matt, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Clint Jennings, Lawrence, and Sally Jennings, Topeka, KS; and four great-grandchildren, Spencer J. Monninger, Trevor Lee Monninger, Sydney M. Monninger, and Lincoln M. Myers. Celebration of Life services will be held on Monday, April 10, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, 712 Ninth St., Baldwin City, KS. Inurnment will follow at Shaw Evergreen Cemetery, rural Chanute, KS.
