Hermine Molnar Obituary

Hermine (Lemp) Molnar passed away on Friday, October 12, 2018, at the age of 91. ‘Hermie' was born in Mottengramt, Austria, on October 21, 1926. In 1961, she moved to Glen Cove, NY, to join Lajos ‘Louis' Molnar where they were married on September 28th. In 1994, after Hermie and Louis retired, they moved to Ottawa, KS, to be close to her son Frank Lemp and his family. For 38 years, Hermie worked in various manufacturing firms on Long Island, and was known for her strong work ethic, leadership skills, and activity in local labor unions, even striking for workers' rights. After moving to Ottawa, she and Louis purchased a home at 210 E. 6th Street where they continued their love of gardening until his death in 2004. Hermie then relocated to Washburn Towers where she was known for her Austrian cooking skills; her love of children, animals and the outdoors; making friends throughout the community; and remaining a devout Catholic who regularly attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. This last year was particularly challenging for Hermie. In May 2017, she lost her only daughter Elisabeth Lechner who formerly lived in St. Michael, Austria, and her only son, Frank, in October. In March of this year, Hermie fell and broke her arm. However, she was determined to live independently and did so with the help of family and friends until two days before her death. Hermie is survived by her sisters Hildegard Brunner of Vienna, Austria, and Aloisia Kainz of Allensteig, Austria; daughter-in-law Miriam Lemp of Ottawa, KS; granddaughters Andrea Eppenschwandtner of Henndorf, Austria, Elizabeth Lemp of Baldwin City, KS and Sarah Lemp of Brooklyn, NY; grandson Gerald Lechner, of Strasswaldchen, Austria; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews who live throughout Austria and Germany. She will long be remembered for her positive attitude, determination and resilience and she will be deeply missed. Hermie's sense of humor, vast cultural experience, and wonderment were inspirational to all who knew her. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, 325 S. Hickory, Ottawa, KS 66067. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ottawa University scholarship fund for students majoring in the visual arts, visual arts education or to the Lemp Art Gallery or Sacred Heart Catholic Church and sent in c/o the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home P.O. 14, Ottawa, KS 66067.
