Irene Florence Heckman

Irene Florence Heckman, age 86, passed away Friday, April 27, 2018, at Baldwin Healthcare & Rehabilitation, Baldwin City, Kansas. She was born February 28, 1932 in Lyndon, KS, the daughter of Benjamin H. Walburn and Addie A. (Hodges) Walburn. Irene graduated from Osage County Public School in 1946. She worked in the hardware business and could help you with just about any job, from plumbing projects to picking out seed for your garden. She did it all. Irene was united in marriage to Roy R. Heckman on January 15, 1949 in Ottawa, KS. They shared over 49 years of marriage until Roy's passing on June 19, 1998. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Addie; her husband, Roy; a daughter, Kathy A. Heckman; a son, Danny R. Heckman; and nine siblings, James, Vernon, Ben, Dean, Gerald, Orlan, Marion, Clifford, and Velma. Irene is survived by a granddaughter, Sara Printy; and two great grandsons, Parker Mason and Logan Mason. Irene was called Grandma by many others from her neighborhood on Sycamore Street in Ottawa, KS. She was renowned for making fried chicken and baking the best pies! She kept a garden every year and did a lot of canning. She also enjoyed sewing and making crafts. Celebration of Life services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, 325 S. Hickory St., Ottawa, KS.
