Janet Atchison Obituary

Janet Lynn Atchison, age 61 of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away October 12, 2018 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, MO. She was born in Kansas City, MO, November 21, 1956 the daughter of Vincent James and Ila (Taylor) James. As a young girl she moved with her family to Franklin County where she has lived for the rest of her life. She attended Central Heights High School in her youth later attending Fort Scott Community College attaining her geriatric aide license and later receiving her Associates of Applied Science Degree as a Registered Nurse from Neosho Community College. From 1985 to 1990 Janet was a Nurse at Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa, KS. In 1990 she began working in various nursing care facilities in the area retiring in 1997. Janet attended the Faith Lutheran Church of Ottawa later attending the Life Care Church, Ottawa. She was very active in the Franklin County Independent Bikers serving several years as Treasurer. She spent many hours during her years making sure that THE Toys for Kids event for the FCIB was a positive event and that as many children were given toys as were needed in Franklin County. She was a very talented artist. Her drawing was always beautiful and full of talent. She loved to crochet and cross stitch. Many items in her house she made herself. Her artistry was even apparent in the furniture she spent hours working on for doll houses. Janet was very free spirited and always very open and kind to others. She was an avid dog lover and always took extra care of her furry friends. Most important in her life was her family. She was always loving and caring part of their lives. In September of 1972 Janet was united in marriage to Dale Carey, they later divorced. In September of 1979 she was united in marriage to Steven Rybolt, They later divorced. In November of 1990 she was united in marriage to Hanford Atchison. Hanford and Janet shared over twenty-seven years of marriage. Hanford survives of the home. Janet is also survived by her children, Allen Carey, Chanute, KS, Melissa Troutman and her husband, Brian, Fontana, KS, Tamara Powell and her husband, Richard, Lawrence, KS, Michael Eric Rybolt and his wife, Stephanie, Chanute, KS, Shawn Rybolt and his wife, Kinsey, Galena, MO; seven grandchildren with one on the way, Dylan, Tatum, Brian, Jr., Kirsten, Christian, Colton, Leo; and one great grandson, Jaxson. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Chester James. The family of Mrs. Atchison will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, October 19, 2018 at Lamb-Roberts Funeral of Ottawa. Private Inurnment services will be at a later date at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Miami County, KS.
