John Sheldon Obituary

John Kent Sheldon, 62, of Ottawa, Kansas passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017. He was born February 1, 1955 in Great Bend, KS, the son of John S. Sheldon and Mary Lou (Masters) Sheldon. John was a lifelong resident of Franklin County. He went to Ottawa High School with the class of 1973. For 34 years he worked for Killough Construction. John was a born again Christian who held family, friends and faith above all else. John served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, served in the National Guard, and earned the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America. A man of many talents, John played several instruments, from playing the baritone as a kid to congas in the praise team. He was a creative man who especially enjoyed making things for other people. Everything from quilt racks to bookshelves, jewelry to furniture, Johnny loved to put a smile on someone's face through his personal gifts. He is also remembered for his lifelong passion, his Harley. There was nothing more that he'd like to do than set out on the open road with his wife by his side. Always a gentleman, John's loving heart never knew a stranger and always accepted people for exactly who they are. John was united in marriage to Lee Ann Lindsey on May 6, 1982 in Lyndon, KS. They shared over thirty-four years of loving marriage. She survives him of the home. He is also survived by his mother, Mary Lou Sheldon; three sons, Michael Sheldon and wife, Shawna, Ottawa, KS, Jon Paul Sheldon and wife, Mandy, Edgerton, KS, and Tyler Sheldon, San Francisco, CA; seven grandchildren, Mercedes Silvey, Darion Silvey, Nicole Burgoon, Nathan Sheldon, Alexis Sheldon, Legacy Sheldon and Destiny Sheldon; two great grandchildren; a brother, Mike Sheldon, Shawnee, KS; two sisters, Kathleen Sheldon-Smith and husband, David, Bothell, WA, and Debbie Hoecker and husband, Tony, Savannah, MO; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved grand-dog, Calvin.
