Michael John Brungardt, 81, of Baldwin City, Kansas passed away May 24, 2018 at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, KS. He was born November 7, 1936 in Salina, KS the son of Balthaser Aloysious Brungardt, M.D. and Margaret Elisabeth (Schwerman) Brungardt. Michael grew up in Salina graduating from Sacred Heart High School with the class of 1954. While in high school Michael was named as an All-State Basketball player his Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years and was the team captain when they won the 1954 Class A KSHSAA State Basketball Championship. Michael graduated from St. Benedict's College in Atchison, KS in 1958 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He then attained a Master's Degree from Fort Hays State University, Hays, KS in Guidance and Counseling and his Specialist's Degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia, MO, in Guidance and Counseling. Michael was a High School Guidance Counselor in St. Mary's, Alma and Westmoreland, KS from 1960 to 1966. The majority of his career he was Vice President of Human Resources for the Brock Hotel Corporation of Dallas, TX, formerly of Topeka, KS. He also served as Executive Director of the Human Rights Commission for the State of Kansas for three years during the Finney Administration. Michael was a wonderful father and husband who loved to spend time in the outdoors fishing, hunting or working his garden. He had a knack for all things mechanical and was often found restoring cars or trucks and repairing various dirt bikes for the kids. His real passion was flying. He was an accomplished private pilot who loved every moment he had in flight. He truly loved to fly. On June 17, 1957 Michael was united in marriage to Mary Ann Mentgen of Salina, KS at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina, KS. They celebrated sixty-one years of marriage together. Mary survives of their home. Michael is also survived by his children; Debbie Stanolis and her husband, Joe, of Bay City, MI, Bill Brungardt and his wife, Genene, of Overland Park, KS, Chris Brungardt and his wife, Jamie, of Sacramento, CA, Matt Brungardt and his wife, Heather, of Greenwood, MO, Linda Schultz and her husband, Scott, of Baldwin City, KS, Mike Brungardt and his wife, Jill, of Baldwin City, KS; ten grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents as well as his seventeen brothers and sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Annunciation Catholic Church, Baldwin City, KS. Burial will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery in Baldwin City, KS. Family will greet friends for a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, May 28, 2018 at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Baldwin City.
