Phyllis Arlene Goracke age 85 of Pomona, KS passed away Sunday December 10, 2017 at Richmond Healthcare, Richmond, KS. She was born in rural Smith County, KS on February 6, 1932 the daughter of William Frank Burge and Leona Pearl (Bartholomew) Burge. Phyllis grew up in Smith County as well as in nearby Franklin, NE. On July 25, 1948, Phyllis was united in marriage to Charles Junior "Bud" Goracke in Smith Center, KS. Phyllis and Bud were a very tight knit couple. Their affection for one another was always apparent, especially in Phyllis' care for her beloved Bud. They shared sixty-seven years of loving marriage together until the death of Bud on December 8, 2015. Phyllis and Bud moved from Smith Center, KS to Tulsa, OK and then to Pomona, KS in 1960 where they would make their home for the rest of their lives. Phyllis was always a homemaker first, caring for her children and husband and their needs. Her family was her greatest treasure and she made sure they knew in the love and care she provided them through the years. As her children grew she began to also work first at Browning Mercantile in Pomona and then in Ottawa at Gibson's, Pomida, and finally for Wal-Mart for twenty-five years in the fabric department. She was a longtime member of the Pomona Assembly of God Church. Attending church and all the church gatherings was one of Phyllis' most important items to accomplish. She was a very skilled seamstress and loved to crotchet. She was an incredible cook and loved to spend time baking for loved ones. Phyllis and Bud spent many hours together tending to the vegetable garden and working together on his various woodworking items. She was also very talented as an artist of her own with various painting projects. Phyllis was most definitely a pet person. Her pets Buffy, Lucky, Callie, Brandy, and Butch never had to worry for lack of care. Phyllis was always there for her furry family. Phyllis was an exceptional mother, grandmother, and wife. Her whole family knew that they were loved by her. She was a wonderful example to everyone who knew her for her hard work and loving manner. Phyllis is survived by her son Joe Goracke and Vicki Matile, of Ottawa, KS; her daughter, Gwenda Schmitt and her husband Jon, of WaKeeney, KS; four grandsons, Deric Schmitt of Austin, TX, Brandon Palmer of Garnett, KS, Andrew Goracke of Pomona, KS, Cody Goracke of LeRoy, KS; two granddaughters, Amber Bourell of Hutchinson, KS, Heather Moore of Topeka, KS; a brother, David Burge of St. George, UT; fifteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Junior "Bud" Goracke; an infant brother, Howard Eugene Burge; brother Frank Junior Budge; sister, Doris Graham and baby sister Betty Jean Burge. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Pomona Assembly of God Church, Pomona, KS. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona. Family will meet with friends for a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa, KS.
