Rose Hobbs Obituary

Rose Marie Hobbs, 94, of Princeton, KS passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at Rock Creek, Ottawa, KS. She was born January 21, 1925 in Birmingham, MO, the daughter of Albert Affolter and Mildred Luadzers. She went to Princeton Grade School and Princeton High School graduating in 1942. Rose then attended Central Business College, Kansas City, MO. Rose Marie worked for H. Roe Bartle, at Sunflower Ordinance and in the fall of 1944 she went to work at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Corporation in Kansas City, MO, during World War II. On July 12, 1945 Rose Marie was united in marriage Jerry Hobbs while he was home on leave from the Navy. She continued working and Jerry went back out to sea. Jerry was discharged from the Navy in 1946 and the moved to the farm a mile North of Princeton where they farmed together for the rest of their lives. Rose Marie was a longtime member of the Princeton United Methodist Church as well as an active member of the United Methodist Women. She also taught many years of Sunday School for children and served the church in several offices. When Rose Marie was able she enjoyed gardening and having lots of flowers in the yard. Her favorite times were family get-togethers for meals when she could see all of her family that she adored. On March 18, 1994 Jerry preceded Rose Marie in death. Rose Marie is also preceded in death by her parents, son, Don Hobbs; sister, Hazel Sheils; two brothers, George Affolter, Albert Affolter; and one grandson, Ryan Hobbs. Rose is survived by her daughter Lois Eileen Hobbs, Ottawa, KS; son Roy Hobbs and his wife, Karen, Fort Smith, AR; nine grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa, KS.
