Velma L. Peine

Velma L. Peine, 99, of Ottawa, KS passed away Monday, March 13, 2017 at the Ottawa Retirement Village. She was born to Wencle John and Mary (Domnanish) Rubick on June 12, 1917 Ottawa Kansas. She graduated from Ottawa High School 1935. After high school, she worked as bookkeeper for 10 years. Velma was united in marriage to Gregory J. Peine on December 30, 1946. She helped her husband on the farm prior to his passing on July 9, 1982. After his death, she did volunteer work in the office of Sacred Heart School for over 20 years. Velma is survived by sister, Mary Poineau of Pueblo, Colorado and nephew, John W. Poineau of Chicago, Illinois. She is also survived by sister-in-law Mary Ann Collins and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Agnes Rubick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 426 S. Cedar, Ottawa, KS 66067. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Ottawa, KS. A Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. followed by a visitation until 8 p.m. Friday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, 325 S.
