Alvin Fredrick Dehn, 91, of Ottawa, KS passed away May 17, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born November 29, 1931 at home in rural Quenemo, KS the son of Henry Dehn and Alvina (Hinz) Dehn. Alvin was a lifelong Franklin County resident attending North Illinois Country School thru the seventh grade, and then attended Williamsburg High School and graduated in 1950.
He attended Faith Lutheran Church for 84 years where his parents were charter members. On October 25, 1953, Alvin was united in marriage to Charlotte Winter at Faith Lutheran Church, Ottawa, KS. They were happily married for 69 years.
Alvin was a lifelong carpenter and farmer. In the early years he helped his dad farm. Then he worked for Tetwiler Motors, Ottawa Wholesale Groceries, Loyd Builders for Alan Loyd, and Western Home Builders in Lawrence. He then owned and operated Dehn’s Custom Cabinets in Ottawa for 35 years from 1974 until his retirement at the age of 78. Throughout the years he mentored East Central Vocational students in the carpentry trade and volunteered carpentry work for several various Ottawa community buildings.
He enjoyed spending Saturdays working on his farm and being a member of the Power of the Past Antique Tractor Club. Alvin loved restoring old Farmall antique tractors. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and water skiing. Family vacations and spending time with family were important to him.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Charlotte Dehn, Ottawa, KS; four children, Debra Hunsaker and her husband, Dave, Ottawa, KS, Fred Dehn and his wife, Patty, Spring Hill, FL, Gary Dehn and his wife, Shelly, Colorado Springs, CO, Lisa Moyer and her husband, Bryan, Wichita, KS; four grandsons, Cale Moyer, Nathan Moyer, Denny Livezey, Ryan Livezey; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Henry Dehn, and infant sister Alvina Dehn.
A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Faith Lutheran Church, Ottawa, KS. The family will greet friends for a visitation, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home. A private interment will be held at a later date.
