Bonnie McMurray Obituary

Bonnie Dee (Myers) McMurray passed away on December 2, 2020 at the age of 92 surrounded by her family.  She was born on July 29, 1928, the sixth of seven children, to Vade and Aleda Myers in rural McPherson County, Kansas. Bonnie attended elementary school at the Lookout Grade School and graduated from McPherson High School in 1947.

She began working at the Farmers Alliance Insurance Company upon high school graduation. While living and working in McPherson, Kansas, Bonnie met her future husband, Ken McMurray, who was a student at McPherson College. They were married on February 19, 1952.

Bonnie and Ken settled in Hutchinson, Kansas where they lived for over 50 years and raised their four children, Susan, Dee, Laura, and Jim.

Bonnie was a devoted mother and homemaker. She loved her family and her home. She was an avid gardener and always had beautiful flowers and roses. She was a very supportive wife to Ken and was always there for her children.

Bonnie and Ken were members of Trinity United Methodist Church in Hutchinson for over 50 years. Their children were all raised in the church and they were active as a family. Bonnie was involved in many different church activities including UMW, choir, as a Sunday school teacher, as well as an adult Sunday school member, to name a few.

Bonnie was also an active member of the HCC faculty wives. She loved music and was a season ticket holder to the Hutchinson Community Concerts for many years. Bonnie had many other interests including working at the Kansas State Fair Art Exhibit for many years, and attending the NJCAA basketball tournament every year and many Blue Dragon football games.

Education was very important to Bonnie and she was very proud that all of her children graduated from college and went on to have successful professional careers as a pharmacist, a nurse, a physician, and an attorney.

Bonnie and Ken enjoyed traveling around the United States after Ken retired. Their favorite trips were to Alaska and Hawaii.

In 2014 Bonnie and Ken moved to Topeka and in 2018 to Baldwin, Kansas to be closer to their daughters Dee and Laura.

Bonnie is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ken of Baldwin, Kansas.
