Carl E. Rice of Burlingame went to be with the Lord at a local hospital surrounded by his 3 daughters on July 22, 2021. He was born on a farm south of Overbrook, KS to Jefferson B. and Stella Marie Riley Rice on May 16, 1935, the seventh of nine children and has lived his entire 86 years in Osage County. He attended Valley Brook and Overbrook Grade Schools. He graduated from Overbrook Rural High School in 1953.
Carl worked at Goodyear for 35 years before retiring. He met his wife Marilyn at the Roller Rink in Burlingame. They were married August 26, 1956, at the Federated Church in Burlingame then settled in the hometown of Carl, Overbrook, KS. To this union three daughters were born, Patti, Pam & Peggy.
Carl & Marilyn moved to her hometown of Burlingame in 1973 where they built their new home and where they have resided for 48 years. Carl enjoyed cars, trucks, anything Ford, camping, boating, skiing with his family and friends. He would work on about anything with a motor and tires. They were members of the Chippewa Camping Club for many years.
Carl was a past member of the Methodist Church in Overbrook. Most of all Carl loved his family.
He is survived by daughters Patricia Lynn Rice Beach (Dennis), Pamela Jo McFarlane, Peggy Jean Rice, 3 grandchildren Josey McFarlane (Christina), Jacob McFarlane (Katie), Kelsie McFarlane Kooser (Brad), 12 great grandchildren McKenna, Madison, Morgan, Moxie, Jameson McFarlane, Justice, Preslee, Ryker McFarlane, Braxton, Jeffrey Decker, Collins and Kane Kooser. Also survived by 1 sister, Mary Ann Rice Miner (Garth), sister n law's Janis Grandon (Dennis) Joneal Brock, brother n law Gene Hotchkiss (Kari), many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife Marilyn of 65 years, son in law Jeff McFarlane, 2 brothers Wayne Rice, Bernie Rice, 5 sisters, Velma Bee Smidt, Dorothy Dot Faust, Ellen Gerisch, Mardell Pittser, Gladys Minni Giffin, 2 nephews, Doug Gerisch, David Ogle and 1 niece Jani B Hunt.
Services will be on Saturday, July 31, 2021 with visitation from 1 pm to 2 pm and services to follow at 2 pm at the Burlingame Federated Church, 322 S. Topeka Ave. Interment will follow at Burlingame Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Carl & Marilyn Rice Memorial Fund and sent in c/o Lamb Roberts Price Funeral Home, PO Box 194, Burlingame, KS 66413.
