Carol Kurtz, age 89, of Auburn, Kansas, formerly of Burlingame, KS, passed away March 19, 2023, at her home. She was born September 29, 1933, in Maple Hill, KS, the daughter Seth Gurtler and Fannie (Winsor) Gurtler. Carol grew up in rural Dickson County graduating from Dickinson County high School with the class of 1941. She moved to the Burlingame/Auburn as an adult in 1964.
Carol was a cook for local school districts until becoming employed by Hallmark Cards in Osage City. She later moved on to Leavenworth with the company and was the cook there until her retirement.
On August 30, 1953 Carol was united in marriage to Donald Kurtz at the Lyona Methodist Church in rural Dickinson County, KS. They shared sixty-three years of marriage until Donald’s death in 2017.
Carol was a member of the Burlingame Federated Church, Burlingame, KS.
Carol is survived by three children, Allen Kurtz and his wife, Tammye, St. Cloud, FL, Steve Kurtz and his wife, Ky, Topeka, KS, Janet (Kurtz) Hunt and her husband, Scott, Auburn, KS; son-in-law, Ron Fike, Carbondale, KS; brother, Wendell “Pete” Gurtler and his wife, Shirley, Iowa Falls, IA; sister, Sharon Holland and her husband, Virgil, Monroe, WA; twenty grandchildren; and twenty-eight great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Kurtz, a daughter, Nancy Fike, and a brother, Roger Gurtler.
The family welcomes friends for a visitation service on Thursday March 30, 2023 from 6-8 p.m. at Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, Burlingame, KS. Funeral services will be Friday March 31, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Burlingame Federated Church, Burlingame, KS. Burial will follow at Burlingame Cemetery.
