Carolyn Turley Obituary

     Carolyn Jean (Miller) Turley, 77, of Baldwin City, Kansas died Friday, January 22, 2021 at Richmond Healthcare, Richmond, KS. She was born September 27, 1943 in Garnett, Kansas the daughter of Ernest Miller and Nellie (Brockus) Miller.  She grew up in the Rantoul area graduating from Rantoul High School with the class of 1962. She was an A student and an active member of her Student Council as class secretary for several years. Carolyn played basketball, volleyball and was a cheerleader. 

    On May 21, 1960 Carolyn was united in marriage to Franklin Turley in Ottawa, KS.  They shared sixty years of love, adventure and devotion. Early in their marriage, Franklin worked construction and the newlyweds lived in Wichita, Salina, Newton, Halstead and purchased their first house in Rantoul. Carolyn spent over 20 years as a homemaker, raising her family and moving to Wellsville in the late 60s and then to Baldwin City in the 80s. Carolyn was a member of Rantoul Presbyterian Church, Rantoul, Wellsville Baptist Church, Wellsville, and a current member of Lighthouse Baptist Church, Baldwin City.  

    Carolyn skillfully played the organ, accordion and over the years was a  pianist for various churches, a choir member, as well as the accompanist for Wellsville High School for several years. She was a youth leader for the Youth for Christ and helped develop the bus ministry at Wellsville Baptist Church. 

    Later in life she worked for the Baldwin City Telegraphic, Baldwin City, Franklin Savings & Loan, Ottawa, North Supply/Sprint, Gardner until her retirement from Sprint. Carolyn was a hard worker and always ready to be of help.  She helped Franklin build their house in Baldwin from the ground up; a home she loved that always had an open door. She loved animals, especially cats, dogs, and horses.  A favorite pet was her poodle Amber who brought her comfort during her illness.           

     Carolyn had an artistic side to her in everything she did, but especially with embroidery, crochet and photography. She was an award winning photographer and crocheted blankets for all her grandchildren over the years. Carolyn was devoted to all her children and grandchildren. She crocheted blankets and shared in the daily lives of all her children and grandchildren over the years. 

     Carolyn is survived by her husband, Franklin Turley, Baldwin City, KS; three children, Rocky Turley, Baldwin City, KS, Teresa Meyerkorth (Rob), Ottawa, KS, Melody Chapman (Greg), Palatka, FL; brother, Don Miller (Pat), Ottawa, KS; seven grandchildren, Tara Steward (Nathan), Olathe, KS, Regan McCurdy (Jeff), Ottawa, KS, Lucas Chapman, Palatka, FL, Wyatt Chapman, Palatka, FL, Riley Meyerkorth, Ottawa, KS, Sara Meyerkorth, Ottawa, KS, Jenna Monreal (Ryan), San Angelo, TX; seven great grandchildren, Colby McCurdy, Ottawa, KS, Ashton McCurdy, Ottawa, KS, Bryson Steward, Olathe, KS, Eva Steward, Olathe, KS, Nella Mae Steward, Olathe, KS, Lainey Monreal, San Angelo, TX, Avery Monreal, San Angelo, TX; two nephews, Tony Miller, Rob Miller; a niece, Tracy Englund (Myron); two great nephews, Brandon Englund, Mikael Englund; and two great-great nephews, Marcus and Asher Englund.

     Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents two daughters; Diana Turley, Deanna Turley and a son, Ricky Turley. 

     Carolyn was a loving and devoted Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt, and Friend. She will be deeply missed and remain in the hearts and thoughts of her family and many friends forever…

     Following Covid-19 guidelines, funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 29, 2021, at Lighthouse Baptist Church, Baldwin City, KS.  The service will be live streamed on the Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home Facebook page for friends wanting to participate virtually.  Graveside service will follow at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, KS.  The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday at Lamb-Roberts–Price Funeral Home, Ottawa.   Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children Hospital, Lighthouse Baptist Church, or Down Syndrome Guild of Kansas and sent c/o Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O.
