Cecil Frieden Obituary

Cecil Richard Frieden, 91, of Pomona, KS passed away Friday, November 26, 2021 at Rock Creek, Ottawa, KS.

He was born March 18, 1930 in Anthony, KS the son of Frank Benjamin Frieden and Esther Ruth (Dotterer) Frieden.  At a young age his parents moved from Kiowa, KS to a farm near St. Francis, KS.

Cecil went to school at St. Francis and also a country school until his parents moved to Howard, KS where he went to high school.  While in high school he enjoyed playing football and was the quarterback of the State Championship team, graduating in 1948.

On March 26, 1950, Cecil was united in marriage to Darlene Marie Langendoerfer in Burlington, CO.

They moved to a farm near Moline, KS where they lived for six years, then moving in 1956 to their farm near Pomona, KS where they have resided for over sixty-five years. Into this union was born Carolyn Gail (Frieden) Nitcher, Lawrence, KS and Mark Cecil Frieden, Pomona, KS.

Cecil’s great love was to hunt and fish, especially fish.  He had a knack for finding and catching fish of all species.  He also enjoyed animals, especially Holstein cattle.  He always had at least one pet, along with dogs and cats. Cecil loved telling jokes and sitting in his chair drinking a cup of coffee.

In later years he and Darlene would be outside sitting in their chairs watching traffic go by. He liked helping Darlene with her garden, farming with his son and grandson and enjoying his wonderful friends. Cecil and Darlene enjoyed many vacations including trips in Europe and fishing in Minnesota.  They made many friends in their journeys.  Cecil and Darlene loved their family and are the foundation of a beautiful family.

Cecil served on the Kansas Water Board for several years.  He and Darlene attended Appanoose Baptist Church in earlier years and most recently at Faith Lutheran Church, Ottawa, KS.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene, Pomona, KS; son Mark and his wife, Rebecca, Pomona, KS; daughter, Carolyn, and her husband, Ted, Lawrence, KS; five grandchildren, Sean Nitcher and his wife, Sara, Laura Phelps and her husband, John, Alissa Boxberger and her husband, Travis, Adam Frieden and his wife, Barbara, Abe Frieden and his wife, Riley; eleven great grandchildren and one on the way.

Cecil is preceded in death by his parents.

The family especially wants to thank Rock Creek of Ottawa and Harbor Hospice.  They are loving and caring souls.
