Charles Luther Brannan, Sr.

Charles Luther Brannan, Sr., 77, of Ottawa, Kansas died Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission in Shawnee Mission, KS.

He was born June 5, 1946 in Fredonia, KS, the son of Frances Paul Brannan and Legitta Navline (Bryant) Brannan.

On October 20, 1967, Charles was united in marriage to Bonnie Matteson in Fort Scott, Kansas. They shared over 46 years of marriage until Bonnie’s passing on September 20, 2014.

After serving our country in the United States Navy, Charles worked at Contour Packing, Becket Erecting, and K-Mart Warehouse, Lawrence, KS.

Charles enjoyed several hobbies including fishing, gardening, walking, playing games with his family, and reading the Bible on his phone.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Brannan; his parents, Frances and Legitta Brannan; two sons, Eddie Brannan and Jeffrey Brannan; two brothers, Donald Brannan and Billy Brannan; and a brother-in-law, Frank Denny.

Charles is survived by two sons, Charles Brannan, Jr. and his wife, Ashley, of Florida, Shawn Curry and his wife, Anita, of Baldwin City, KS; three daughters, Mary Kieffaber and her boyfriend, Paul Mason, of Ottawa, KS, Janet Brannan and her husband, Mark Dickey, of Ottawa, and Cheryl Taylor Gibbs and her husband, David, of Osawatomie, KS; two brothers, Paul Brannan and his wife, Diana, of Ottawa, David Brannan and his wife, Donna, of Ottawa; two sisters, Linda Bond and her husband, Albert, of Pomona, KS, Reba Denny of Texas; twenty-two grandchildren; and twenty-six great grandchildren.

Cremation has been selected and the family will have a Celebration of Life service at a later date. Eventually, the ashes of Charles and Bonnie will be buried together at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, KS.
