Claude W. Graybill, age 88 of Garnett, KS passed away Tuesday December 29, 2020 at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, KS.
Claude was born December 21, 1932 in Kansas City, KS the son of Claude W. Graybill and Mildred (Spencer) Holmes. He grew up in the Kansas City, KS area and graduated from Bishop Ward High School with the class of 1950. He then graduated from Donnelly College, Kansas City, KS, with Associates in Arts degree in 1952. He also graduated from Aero Mechanics School in 1957.
Claude proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1960 earning the rank of Airman 1st Class. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal.
Claude worked for T.W.A. and later Ford as a mechanic before starting his profession as a pipe fitter for Gas Service Company, Kansas City, KS, where he worked for 28 years until his retirement in 1994.
Claude loved being out of the city and in the country. In 2001 he moved from his home in Olathe, KS to Garnett, KS. In Garnett he was a member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church also serving as an active member of the Order of St. Francis. He truly enjoyed his time volunteering for the church. He also loved his morning coffee with his friends at the gas station. A morning trip he was always looking forward to. Claude also became a lover of naps later in life. In his youth he was often out in nature either hunting or fishing. Most enjoyable to him however was time spent with his loving family. He was grateful for their love and always was excited to see them.
On April 27, 1957 Claude was united in marriage to Kathryn Rebecca Catlin. Kathryn precedes him in death.
He is also preceded in death by his son, Steven Graybill; grandson, Brandon Mills; and a sister, Billie Marie Graybill.
Claude is survived by his son, Claude W. Graybill, Jr. and his wife Lea Ann, Blairstown, MO; daughter, Karen Mills and her Husband, James, Kansas City, KS; sister, Louise Adam, Kansas City, KS; three granddaughters, Stephanie Winkler, Nicole Calia, Ashlee Loper; two grandsons, Chad Mills, Joseph Mills; and eleven great grandchildren.
Following Covid-19 guidelines, graveside funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at Richmond Cemetery, Richmond, KS. The service will be live streamed on the funeral home Facebook page for friends wanting to pay their respects. The family requests no flowers or memorials be sent.
