D. Irene Kaff, 93, of Burlingame, KS died Saturday, November 1, 2025 in Topeka, Kansas at Presbyterian Manor.
She was born May 26, 1932 in Burlingame, KS the daughter of Ernest B. Sage and Anna Mae (Sturm) Sage. Irene graduated from Burlingame High School with the class of 1950.
On June 30, 1950, Irene was united in marriage to William R. “Bill” Kaff in Burlingame, KS. The couple would share more than forty-seven years of loving marriage before Bill passed away in 1997.
Irene had many careers, including working as a telephone operator, Josten’s yearbook company, seamstress for Panhandle Slim Western Wear, and retired from the First State Bank of Burlingame. In her retirement years she enjoyed assisting as a librarian at Burlingame High School. She was dedicated to her community, participating in Lydia Circle. She served on the board of directors for the Burlingame Cemetery.
Irene had a strong faith in Jesus, her Lord and Savior, and attended the Federated Church where she taught Sunday school, vacation Bible school, facilitated the Prayer chain for those in need and served the church in many other capacities.
She enjoyed working outdoors, mowing her acreage and tending her flower gardens. Throughout life her main focus was her family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends to many parts of the US and Europe.
Irene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William R “Bill” Kaff; her parents, Ernest B. Sage and Anna Mae (Sturm) Sage; two brothers, Robert Sage and Marvin Sage; and one sister, Donna Neu.
She is survived by a son, Dale Kaff (Robin) of Tecumseh; a daughter, Tonya Bevitt of Topeka; three brothers, Donald Sage of Topeka, KS, Gary Sage and Bruce Sage, both of Burlingame, KS; two sisters, Peggy Abney of Topeka, KS and Shirley Trchalek of Spring, TX; four grandchildren, Jason Vandevord (Dawn), Nathan Vandevord (Audra), Hannah Crandall (Andrew) and Rachel Osborne (Tim) and eleven great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Finley and Lakin Vandevord, Garrett, Cheyenne and Tripp Vandevord, Ava, Cameron, Marin and Harrison Crandall and Eloise Osborne, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday November 10, 2025 at the Federated Church, Burlingame, KS. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 9, 2025 at Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, 503 S. Topeka Avenue, Burlingame, Kansas 66413.
