Dolores Kalb Obituary

Dolores Maxine Kalb was born in Lawrence, Kansas on February 23, 1929 the daughter of Wesley H Deckwa and Alberta (Gabriel) Deckwa.

She grew up on farm in Clearfield, Kansas the oldest of four daughters.

Dolores attended Baldwin High School, graduating in 1947 and shortly thereafter married Floyd Eugene (Gene) Kalb, Jr. on September 27, 1947.

She attended Business School, where she honed her shorthand, typing, and other business skills.

Upon graduation, Dolores worked at Critchfield’s Automotive in Baldwin, Kansas and Pippert’s Auto Parts in Lawrence, Kansas, and also helped Gene driving their pick-up truck to the grain elevator during harvest.

Dolores also served as the Secretary of Baker University’s alumni office for over 30 years and was designated as an “Honorary Alumnus” upon her retirement. She was also presented with the Grace Irwin Service Award in honor of her “Faithful, Efficient, and Thoughtful Service to Baker University and its Alumni”.

Dolores was an active member of Ives Chapel Methodist Church for over 70 years, where she played the piano, organ, and sang in the choir, Women’s Society for Christian Service, among various other duties.

She was also a member of Rebekah Lodge, Royal Neighbors and various other social clubs and organizations, including the Black Jack Historical Society working at the “Pancakes on the Prairie” at Black Jack Park during Baldwin’s Annual Maple Leaf Festival.

Dolores loved her family, KU basketball, music, dancing with Gene, playing cards and other games with her family and was always “the life of the party”.

Dolores is survived by a daughter: Jeanette Kalb, a son: Skip Kalb, two grandchildren: Jason Kalb and Allison Clackler, and five great grandchildren: Tate and Ellie Clackler, and Cooper, Hudson, and Delaney Kalb; two sisters: Dorothy Mae Douglas and Mary Pippert;  and  four nephews and three neices.

Following Covid-19 guidelines, graveside funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 18, 2021, at Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin City, KS.  The service will be live streamed on the funeral home Facebook page for friends wanting to pay their respects.   The family suggest memorials to the Ives Chapel Methodist Church be sent c/o Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O.
