Donald Dean Atchison, 89, of Ottawa, Kansas died Saturday, July 19, 2025 in his home.
He was born February 20, 1936 in Homewood, Kansas the son of Arthur and Thelma (Adams) Atchison. He graduated from Princeton High School with the class of 1954.
On June 20, 1957, Donald was united in marriage to Patricia “Pat” Griffin in Ottawa, Kansas.
Donald served 2 years in the United States Army. He then served in the Kansas National Guard for 18 years, earning the rank of Seargent. Donald worked at the City of Ottawa Power Plant as a Supervisor, retiring in 2000. Until 2015, he also owned and operated Don’s Appliance for 40 years.
Donald was one of the founding leaders of the Royal Rangers Boys program at First Assembly of God, Ottawa. He and other men led the troop for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Thelma Atchison; his father-in-law, Clifford Griffin; and his mother-in-law, Evelyn Griffin.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Atchison of Ottawa, KS; two sons, David Atchison of Ottawa, KS and Darin Atchison of Ottawa, KS; a daughter, Marsha Atchison of Ottawa, KS; his twin brother, Ronald Atchison of Princeton, KS; three grandchildren, Kyle Atchison of Ottawa, KS, Aubrianna Jones and her husband, Chase, of Williamsburg, KS, and Ashley Mijangos and her husband, Jose, of Ottawa, KS; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 24, 2025 at Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, 325 S. Hickory St, Ottawa, KS 66067. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, KS. To celebrate Donald’s life, a visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, Ottawa, KS.
