Doris Grogan Obituary

Doris Joan Grogan, age 92, of Ottawa, KS, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2024 in Lee’s Summit, MO.  She was born October 10, 1932 in Lindsborg, KS the daughter of John A. Anderson and Mattie B. (Wright) Anderson.  Doris grew up in Lindsborg and graduated from Lindsborg High School then attended Ottawa University in Ottawa, KS where she met her husband to be, James W. (Jim) Grogan.   

On June 1, 1952 Doris was united in marriage to Jim at the Lindsborg First Baptist Church.  They shared over seventy years of marriage until the death of Jim in 2022.

Doris was a buyer and department manager for Town & Country Supply in Ottawa for many years until her retirement. A long time member of the First Baptist Church, she served on various committees and sold Price Chopper gift cards as part of the church’s fundraising efforts. She walked her neighborhood early every morning for years picking up the newspapers of neighbors and placing them on their porches. She and Jim were devoted to Ottawa University, befriending the coaches and sponsoring many student athletes over the years. In 1999 Doris and Jim were awarded the Esther Ruth award for significant time in volunteer service to the University. She was an excellent cook and famous among the family and student athletes for her delicious chocolate chip cookies. Family was the most important thing in her life.  

Doris is survived by her two sons Steve Grogan and his wife, Robbi, Belton, MO; Scott Grogan; six grandchildren; Tyler (Samantha), Tanner (Casey), Tate (Kristina), Patrick, Parker (Preston), Paige and four great-grandchildren; Ashton, Adalynn, Ari and a new baby girl, Beckett.

She is preceded in death by her husband Jim Grogan; her parents John and Mattie Anderson; and two sisters, Rosalind Palmquist and Donna June Bishop.

A memorial service was held at the First Baptist Church of Ottawa, 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 16, 2025. Internment for both Jim and Doris will occur at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa at a later date.
