Dorothy Beckmon

Dorothy A. (Knoll) Beckmon, 96, of Overbrook, KS, formerly of Carbondale, KS passed on Friday, October 22, 2021 at Brookside Healthcare & Rehab, Overbrook, KS.

She was born November 5, 1924 in Rose, KS the daughter of Jacob Elmer and Dora Jane Knoll.  She lived in the Carbondale community from 1976 until 2019, when she moved to Overbrook.

On October 10, 1945 Dorothy was united in marriage to Melvin Beckmon in Tulsa, OK.  They had six children, David, Donald, Phillip, Douglas, Joan, and Deborah.  She also has fifteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and twenty-three great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, her parents, three brothers, one sister, and two great grandchildren. 

Dorothy enjoyed sewing.  She made quilts for her children and grandchildren.  She also enjoyed cooking for her family and always made Sunday dinners until she was 90 years old. She loved to garden and always had several types of beautiful flowers and vegetables in her garden to share.  She also enjoyed playing Pitch with family and friends.

Dorothy worked in the nursery at Stormont -Vail Hospital for several years.  In 1972 she went to work for the Office of Vital Statistics for the State of Kansas and retired from there in 1987.  She was a fun and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt and her presence will be missed by everyone.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 29, 2021 at Carbondale Church of Christian Fellowship.  Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. when the service begins Friday at the church.  The burial will follow the service at Carbondale Cemetery.  Memorial contributions to the Carbondale Library can be sent through Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O.
