Etta Hazelwood, age 87 of Lawrence, KS formerly of Baldwin City, KS, passed away August 31, 2019 at her home in Lawrence, KS. Etta was born December 14, 1931 in Wentworth, MO, the daughter of Eddie A. Reid and Grace I. (Wiley) Reid. Etta graduated from Wentworth High School. Etta was a switchboard operator at Hercules Powder Plant in rural Johnson County, KS for almost fifteen years. In 1980 Etta and her husband moved to Baldwin City. She was a member of the Baldwin City Church of Christ. She was also a gifted crocheter and knitter. She made hundreds of her own Barbie Doll outfits over the years. She had a very green thumb when it came to plants. She could snip a piece off a plant and get it to grow and she had many plants in her house that thrived. Etta loved her family and friends and spending time with them was always a highlight to her day. On November 3, 1949 Etta was united in marriage to Glen H. Hazelwood in Barryville, AR. Glen precedes her in death. Etta is also preceded in death by her parents and her five brothers, Ernest, Edward, Elmer, Elvin, and Eugene. She is survived by her son Glen Hazelwood and his wife, Wanda, Lawrence, KS; daughter Carol Louise Hazelwood, Gardner, KS; grandson Adam Hazelwood; and a great grand daughter, Megan Hazelwood. Etta also had several caretakers and friends that meant a great deal to her over the years. Her friends Sharon Andrews and Alice Randall took extra special care of her as her health declined. Their love and support was a true blessing. Also her caregivers Maggie Crowder and Yolanda Thompson as well as Maggie's comfort dog Belle were very helpful to Etta. She also received wonderful care from Good Shepherd Hospice especially from Keela Starbuck and Caleb Courtor. A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 7, 2019, at Baldwin City Church of Christ. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Clinton Cemetery, Clinton, KS. Family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made out to Good Shepherd Hospice sent c/o Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O.
