Gary Wayne Dodd, 59, of Ottawa, KS passed away Friday, November 26, 2021 at Olathe Hospice House, Olathe, KS
He was born June 24, 1962 in Ottawa, KS the son of Galen “Dean” Dodd and June (Jones) Dodd. Gary was a lifelong Ottawa resident graduating from Ottawa High School with the class of 1980.
On March 7, 1987, Gary was united in marriage to Karen Walburn in Ottawa, KS. They shared thirty-four years of love and devotion together.
Gary was a Meat Cutter at several grocery stores in the area. He began his career at Paxson’s Grocery in Ottawa, eventually moving to Country Mart, Ottawa. He finished his career at Nolke Cash Saver in Wellsville.
He was a member of the Ottawa Community Church and an avid H.A.M. radio operator. Gary picked up being a HAM radio fan from his uncle and grandfather and was even able to find and then use his uncle’s call sign. Gary loved to fish. Anywhere he could drop a line, he wanted to be there. He was also an avid woodworker in his early years. He truly enjoyed helping with his father in law at his furniture store. Gary’s eye disease required that he have a guide dog over the past several years. He was blessed with three wonderful guides; Rockie from the baseball litter, Atlanta from the speedway litter, and his recent dog, Cassidy. They all were wonderful and loving guides. Most important to Gary was his wife and family. He loved them dearly.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Dodd, Ottawa; mother, June Dodd, Ottawa; two sons, Andrew Dodd and his wife, Wendy, Ottawa, Matthew Dodd and his wife Katrina, Ottawa; brother, Bobby Dodd and his wife, Martha, Ottawa; and two grandsons, Blaze Dodd and Anthony Dodd.
Gary is preceded in death by his father, Dean Dodd.
To celebrate Gary’s life his family will greet friends for a visitation Friday December 17, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Ottawa Community Church. Private graveside services at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, KS will be at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to KSDS Assistance Dogs, where Gary received all of his three dogs from, or Ottawa Community Church and sent c/o Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O.
