Gary Powell

Gary Ray Lee Powell, 30, of Chanute, KS died Friday, June 19, 2020 at Kansas University Hospital, Kansas City, KS.

He was born July 22, 1989 in Indio, CA the son of Gary Duane Powell and Veta Mensch.  Gary attended Chanute High School but graduated in Rogers, Arkansas. 

Gary was a food service manager and chef during his professional career.  He managed several different food company stores in eastern Kansas and spent one summer as a personal chef in Italy. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Gary Duane Powell; brother, Steven Dale Powell; three grandparents, Harvey Dale Mensch, Glenn Powell, and Joan Moffitt; an uncle, Lee Dale Mensch; two aunts, Gina Downey and Glenda Haislip; and a niece, Jasmyn Johnston.

He is survived by his mother, Veta Moffitt, Ottawa, KS; stepfather, Steven Moffitt, Ottawa, KS; six siblings, Sabrina Whitaker, Chanute, KS, Michael Powell, Chanute, KS, Stephanie Powell, Mound Valley, KS, Kimberly Johnston, Humboldt, KS, Charles Powell, Arkansas, Lisa Drybread, Iola, KS; two grandmothers, Veta Mensch, Martha Halgrimson; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
