Gary J Silver, age 87, of Scranton, KS, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2022. He was born on February 21, 1935 during a blizzard on a farm north of Burlingame, KS to Clarence Silver and Eva (McPhail) Silver. Gary graduated from Scranton high school with the class of 1952.  Gary was a lifelong Scranton-Burlingame Kansas area resident.

In 1956 Gary enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country for thirty years in the Active Duty Navy for twenty years and the Navy reserves for ten years, attaining the rank of Senior Chief Engineman.  Gary served his country during the Vietnam War and was the top member of his basic training class.

Following his military service Gary worked for several different upholstery companies in Topeka, eventually opening and operating Gary Silver Upholstery out of his garage in Scranton.  He was a well-known craftsman in the Topeka area for car dealerships and antique car owners from all over eastern Kansas. He loved his job and was a meticulous craftsman.

Gary was a detailed man a trait carried over from his military years.  He was a proud American and honored to have served his country in the Navy.  He loved to hunt especially Pheasant every year in western Kansas with friends and family.  Gary was very health conscious. He would work out for three hours every day even up until a few weeks ago.

On March 28, 1965 Gary was united in marriage to Helen Holm in Scranton, KS.  They were just nearing their fifty seventh year of marriage this March. 

Gary was an active and dedicated member of the Grace Community Church, Overbrook serving over the years as a lay leader and former member of the cabinet.  Gary was also a member of the Edward Ted Row Post # 2709, Scranton, KS and a member of the Post 400 American Legion, Topeka, KS. 

Gary is survived by his wife, Helen Silver, Scranton, KS; son, Kenneth Silver (Kimberly), Scranton, KS; two brothers, Lynn E Silver (Dona), Burlingame, KS, Don Silver (Jan), Carbondale, KS; granddaughter, Kelsey Silver, Topeka, KS and many close friends, nieces, nephews, extended and adopted family members.

Memorial funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Grace Community Church, Overbrook, KS Interment will follow in the Scranton Cemetery, Scranton, KS with military honors.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideon’s or Grace Community Church and sent c/o the Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O.
