Geraldine Joy Urich, 90, of Carbondale, KS passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at the Brookside Retirement Community in Overbrook, KS. She was born July 18, 1932 at Wakarusa, KS the daughter of Perry G. Fisher and Mina M. (Seastrom) Fisher.
She was united in marriage to Laurence H. “Slug” Urich on November 6, 1960 at Carbondale, KS and preceded her in death on March 31, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Carl Fisher; and an infant sister, Irene Fisher. Geraldine is survived by five nieces, Nancy Lang and husband, Larry of Overbrook, KS, Jeanne Mehl and husband, Jerry of El Dorado, KS, Mary Denker and husband, Terry of Topeka, KS, Susan Robitaille of Mulberry Grove, IL and Linda Urich and husband, John of Arden, NC; five nephews, Marc Fisher and wife, Anne of Topeka, KS, Craig Fisher of Broken Arrow, OK, Timothy Robitaille and wife, Cindy of Carbondale, KS, Karl Urich and wife, Bridget of Albany, NY and Robert Robitaille and wife, Jan of Olathe, KS; a sister-in-law, Judy Urich of North Carolina; and several cousins.
Geraldine was a graduate of the Carbondale Rural High School and the Clark’s School of Business. She was employed by the Kansas Motor Vehicle Division as a Secretary/Office Manager for forty-three years, retiring July 17, 1994.
She was a member of the Carbondale Church of Christian Fellowship and was a regular attendee until her health began to fail. She continued to attend church and Bible studies each week at the nursing home and participated in their activities. She joined the Brookside Retirement Community in Overbrook, KS in October of 2015 after living in Carbondale, KS forty-five years.
Geraldine loved cats, butterflies, blue birds, flowers, crafts, reading, working crossword puzzles and putting jigsaw puzzles together while framing them for the walls of her room. She and her husband, Laurence loved to travel, visiting all fifty States. They visited Hawaii seven times, Alaska three times, while also traveling to Canada, Switzerland, Germany, Lichtenstein and Vienna.
To celebrate Geraldine’s life, a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2022 at the Carbondale Church of Christian Fellowship, 430 Commercial Street, Carbondale, KS 66414. Interment will follow at Shawnee Center Cemetery, Wakarusa, KS. The family will receive friends before the funeral service at 9 a.m. at the Church.
