Golden McGinnis Obituary

Golden McGinnis, 96 of Overbrook, KS, passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Brookside Retirement Community in Overbrook, KS. He was born October 13, 1922 in Ray County, Missouri, the son of Ramie and Nell (Smart) McGinnis. Golden was united in marriage to Ruth Marie Mann on January 17, 1946 in Omaha, NE. They shared over seventy years of marriage until her death in 2016. They moved to a farm in the rural Carbondale area of Osage County, KS in 1957. They later moved to Overbrook, KS in 2000. He served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Army Signal Corp attaining the rank of T/4. Golden enlisted in December, 1942 and was honorably discharged in January, 1946. Returning home, he was employed at the Dry Ice Company in Omaha, Nebraska, Ford Motors in Kansas City and retired from Goodyear Tire, Topeka, KS after twenty-eight years. During those twenty-eight years he also worked on his farm. Golden loved his trips to Branson. He would take Ruth to the shows and really enjoyed that he could avoid driving the crazy city traffic with the bus taking them straight from Silver Dollar City to the hotel. One of the fondest memories of his time in Branson was the vow renewal Ruth and Golden had for their 50thanniversary at the little chapel in Silver Dollar City. He was also an avid and knowledgeable Royals fan. He listened to the games good or bad and always was ready for the next great season. Most beloved in his life was his family, especially his wife Ruth. They were a beautiful testament of a strong and loving marriage. Golden is survived by two sons, Wayne McGinnis and wife, Teresa, Scranton, KS and Steve McGinnis and wife, Katherine, of Mulberry, Arkansas; a daughter, Linda McGinnis of Overbrook, KS.; four grandchildren, Neal McGinnis and wife, Autumn, Leah McGinnis, Steve McGinnis and wife, Leigh, and Sheila Harrell and husband, Greg; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth McGinnis; his parents; brother, Strother McGinnis; and sister, Agnes Gregory. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday December 11 2018 at Overbrook Bible Church, Overbrook, KS. Burial will follow at Ridgeway Cemetery in Carbondale, KS.
