Harlan Bevitt Obituary

Harlan C. Bevitt, 92, of Burlingame, KS died Saturday, August 23, 2025 at his home in Burlingame, Kansas.

He was born January 7, 1933 in Silver Lake, Kansas the son of Merlin Bevitt and Dessie (Hohman) Bevitt.

Harlan was a member of the United States Army from March of 1953 to 1955. During his service he was a battery member of the 11th Division and specifically worked in the anti-aircraft artillery battalion. He worked in Austria for 11 months stationed at Camp Roeder. Harlan would obtain the rank of Corporal before being honorably discharged in 1955.

In June of 1959, Olive Ann Gookins was united in marriage to Harlan Bevitt.   They later divorced.

After his military experience he was a roofer and worked for various companies over the years. In his free time Harlan enjoyed looking at older cars, collecting Danbury Mint Cars and going to second hand stores and junkyards. He was also a fan of the outdoors, admiring nature’s beauty, cats, birds, and flowers. He would often read to others and loved books. Harlan was also very proud to be an American and was thankful he was able to serve.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Merlin Bevitt and Dessie Bevitt; his two brothers Merlin Bevitt and Bob Bevitt; and his sister, Marlene Ecklund.

Harlan is survived by his sister, June Bentley of Texas; his son Harlan “Dean” Bevitt and wife Julie of Burlingame, KS; his three daughters, Della Phillips of Allen, KS, Donna Bevitt of Harveyville, KS, and Dana Schutter and husband Galen of Topeka, KS; four grandsons, Clinton Phillips, Montel Munoz, Joel Bevitt, and Malachi Schutter; and two granddaughters, Mindy Casey and Katelyn Baker; and 10 greatgrandchildren.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday September 16, 2025 at Overbrook Cemetery.
