Henry Arland "Arlie" Hildebrandt Obituary

Henry Arland “Arlie” Hildebrandt, 85, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2026, at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, surrounded by the love of his family.

Arlie was born June 28, 1940, in Quenemo, Kansas, the son of Henry Otto Hildebrandt and Minnie (Neihoff) Hildebrandt. He attended Chippewa Grade School until the eighth grade when he was diagnosed with polio.

On September 17, 1959, Arlie was united in marriage to Ramona Darlene Johnson in Ottawa, Kansas. They shared sixty-four years of marriage before Ramona’s passing on November 11, 2023.

Arlie worked alongside his father in construction, where he learned the trade and eventually took over the family business. He was the kind of man everyone could count on. If something needed to be fixed, built, or figured out, Arlie was the one to call. Whether it was working on cars, repairing mowers, doing yard work, gardening, remodeling homes, building houses, or putting up pole barns, his hands were rarely still. He took great pride in working hard and using his knowledge and skills to help others.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Ottawa and served on the Board of Trustees.

Some of the most treasured memories were the times he spent with his family, including camping, boating, fishing, and taking family vacations. He loved family gatherings and being surrounded by the people who meant the most to him, always teaching those around him to appreciate the simple moments in life.

Arlie leaves behind a legacy of love through his two daughters, Brenda Eckard and Connie Hildebrandt, both of Ottawa, Kansas; two brothers, Norman Hildebrandt and Leroy Hildebrandt, both of Ottawa, Kansas; five grandchildren, Henry Christopher “Chris” Hildebrandt, Jennille Yeager, Cassandra (Nikki) Coy, Ashley Hird, all of Ottawa, Kansas, and Angela Howard of Paola, Kansas; nineteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Though we will miss him every day, we take comfort in knowing he is whole again and reunited with those he loved most: his parents, Henry O. and Minnie Hildebrandt; his wife, Ramona; his son, Henry Stephen “Steve” Hildebrandt; and his sister, Marie (Hildebrandt) Lines Draves.

His presence, wisdom, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Graveside services and interment will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2026, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Pomona, Kansas.
