Henry "Hank" Ohse Obituary

Henry “Hank” William Ohse, 91, of Carbondale, Kansas passed away Friday, December 12th,  2025 at his home with family by his side.  He was born February 10th, 1934, in Richland, Kansas. The son of Charles Edgar Ohse and Edith Violet (Reed) Ohse.

Henry’s education only went up to the 8th grade.  He then left school and continued to work full-time on the family farm until joining the Army.  Henry served in the United States Army 1954 to 1962.  He was a Private for the crew AAA AW Crewman gun squad.  Henry was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.

He was united in marriage to Carol Lea Stevens on August 7th, 1956, in New Mexico.  From this union, two sons were born, William Duane and Michael Lee Ohse.  They shared over sixty-seven years of marriage before the passing of Carol, on May 31st, 2024.  Henry and Carol always told their grandchildren that they took a car ride one day and ended up clear in New Mexico and got married.

Hank retired from Montgomery Wards.  After retirement, he and Carol enjoyed farming in Pomona, Kansas.  After selling their farm, they purchased run down homes to remodel.  That became their hobby.  If Carol saw a house she liked, and could see it’s potential, Henry would make that happen for her.  The family referred to him as a “handyman”.  He could fix anything you put in front of him, from a washing machine, a lawn mower, or even a car.  Another hobby Hank enjoyed was fishing.  They loved to fish and go camping with their children and their siblings when they were all still living.  He and Carol carried on that tradition with their grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Their favorite spot to camp was called, “Carbolyn Park campground”.  He will be remembered by always telling jokes.  He loved to make everyone smile and laugh.  Hank enjoyed a good time, but he was also very reserved and respectable.

Mr. Ohse was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Edith Ohse; his wife, Carol Ohse; two sons, Bill Ohse and Mike Ohse; three sisters, Irene, Mildred and Jenny Mae; and two brothers, Donald Ohse and Charles Ohse.

Surviving family includes his two granddaughters, Brandi and Jessica Ohse; three great grandsons, Martin Padilla, Adonis Foster and Jakobe Stringfield; one great granddaughter, Armani Foster all of Topeka, Kansas.
