Jeanette Croucher Obituary

Jeanette Croucher, 84, of Ottawa, KS passed away Friday, November 5, 2021 at her home.

She was born September 1, 1937 in Ottawa, KS the daughter of Beulah Bell (McDaniel) and Richard Lincoln Smay.  Jeanette and her twin sister, Lynn, were the first set of twins born at the original Ransom Memorial Hospital.  Jeanette was a lifelong Ottawa resident attending school in the Ottawa School district.

On May 18, 1958, Jeanette was united in marriage to Virgil Claire Croucher at the First Baptist Church, Ottawa, KS.  They just recently celebrated their sixty-third year of marriage.

Jeanette began her working life at Haley Abstract.  She later was a legal secretary for Gary Jordan and a secretary for Kansas Gas Service.  In 1979 she opened Croucher Abstract & Title which she owned and operated as an Abstractor until 2005 when she sold the company to her son, Rod.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Ottawa, a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Ottawa Soroptimist Club, as well as President and member of the Board of Trustees of the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce.

Jeanette loved to play cards with family and friends; in particular she was always ready to play UNO or Skip-Bo.  She enjoyed reading and spent many hours sitting and reading.  She even enjoyed reading to her grandchildren and helping them learn to read.  She was a fixture at her boys and her grandchildren’s sporting events over the years.  If there was a game, Jeanette and Virgil were there to cheer on their kids.  She was always ready to go on a shopping trip.  Whether it is to buy clothes for the grandkids or to a craft show such as the Maple Leaf Festival or her favorite War Eagle, she was excited to get out and shop for her loved ones.  Jeanette was a dedicated professional.  She spent countless late nights at the office making sure everything always ran smoothly for the company.  She was very proud of her profession.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Smay and Beulah Smay; step mother, Myra Smay; twin sister, Lynette Shutt; daughter-in-law, Jan Croucher; and a brother-in-;aw, Bob Flood.

She is survived by her husband, Virgil Croucher, Ottawa; three sons, Brad Croucher and Janet, Ottawa, Rick Croucher and Brenda, Ottawa, Rod Croucher and Margie, Ottawa; a sister, Juanita (Corky) Flood, McPherson, KS; brother-in-law, Daryl Shutt, Ottawa; twenty-one grandchildren; and twenty-three great grandchildren.
