Jerry Hill Obituary

Jerry Monroe Hill, 80, of Ottawa, KS died Friday, June 4, 2021 at his home.

He was born July 27, 1940 in La Harpe, KS the son of James and Alberta (Calor) Hill.  He grew up in the Mildred, KS and Moran, KS communities moving to Ottawa, KS in 1968.

Jerry was a lifelong farmhand working for over fifty years for Roger Shoemaker.

He was a member and Deacon of the Community Foursquare Church, Ottawa.

Jerry loved his job.  If he had any free time on his hands he would head out to the farm and get more work done.  He loved to travel over the years especially to Arkansas.  He was ornery around his loved ones always teasing and joking with them.  He loved to swim and fish when he found time later in life.  He also loved his western movies, especially John Wayne and Audie Murphy movies. 

On December 11, 1962, Jerry was united in marriage to Edna “May” Skiles in Iola, KS West Lane Baptist Church.  May preceded him in death in 2006.  On November 10, 2007 Jerry married Bonnie McGowen in Ottawa.  She survives of their home.

He is also survived by three sons, Jerry Hill, Kansas City, MO, James Hill, Salina, KS, Darrin Hill, Pomona, KS; a daughter, Sandra Kelly and her husband, David, Topeka, KS; Nine grandchildren, Chris, Sean, Sandeana, Jamie, Dalton, Darrin, Jr., Tylor “T.J.”, James, Jerry E., and James; and eight great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Edna “May” Hill, five brothers, Robert Kaler, John “Butch” Hill, Eddie Hill, Everett Hill, Eugene Hill; and two sisters, Catherine Hill, and Hellen Hill.

To celebrate Jerry’s life, a funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Community Foursquare Church, Ottawa.  The family will meet with friends for a visitation from 1:00 p.m. to the service hour at the church Saturday.    Memorial contributions may be made to Jerry Hill Memorial Fund and sent c/o Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O.
